What We Do

California’s first and only proven manufacturer of container-based multifamily housing and school buildings.

Modular Shipping Container from Crate

What We Do

GETTING BUILDINGS READY FOR OCCUPANCY FASTER THAN EVER BEFORE

For California developers facing high construction costs and slow delivery times, CRATE’s approach eliminates workflow inefficiencies, shortens the development cycle compared to conventional site-built construction, reduces waste and produces stronger and more durable buildings. CRATE’s modular building structures are manufactured in Los Angeles and are delivered ready-to-install to our forward-thinking developer partners.

With a state-level approval, plan check times are drastically reduced. By moving manufacturing indoors into our climate-controlled factory, we eliminate weather and site preparation delays. We then deliver all of our modular components to the construction site and assemble them in a matter of weeks.

Our location is less than 10 miles from two of the largest ports in the country, Los Angeles and Long Beach, and gives us access to our incredible “raw” material: shipping containers. These containers have transported goods from China to the U.S, one-way, and are not utilized for reuse in the shipping industry.

Design

All of our structures are designed and manufactured in-house using local materials from the Los Angeles area. By using shipping containers as our raw material, there are thousands of mix-and-match designs available to customers.

Engineering

CRATE structures are value-engineered for efficiency and stability from the get-go. Because of this, we're able to better predict project costs and more efficiently use construction materials to reduce waste.

Permitting

Our bread and butter. All CRATE buildings exceed California's high standards for energy efficiency, durability and safety. Because all of our buildings are approved at a state level, we're able to zip through the permitting process and keep projects moving.

Manufacturing

All CRATE buildings are fabricated in our climate-controlled factory at 3025 East Dominguez Street in Carson, California. Our 75-person team has the capacity to manufacture 4,000 square feet of space per week and we can double that capacity within 30 days.

Installation

Our factory is close to local job sites and we can stage modules there, making the logistics of delivery day easier for General Contractors (GCs). That means fewer delays and less risk of damage during transport.

How we do it

explore the craftsmanship of crate

1

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

All CRATE buildings exceed California's high standards for energy consumption and include high R-values and some of the most energy efficient mechanical and lighting systems available on the market.

2

Strong Structure

The steel in CRATE’s modular building components is more than 100 times stronger than the construction material in typical stick-built California multifamily homes.

3

Customization

CRATE’s modular system is fully customizable. From façade to faucet, our revolutionary plug-and-play modular system allows architects and builders to envision a creative masterpiece and build it—fast.

4

85% Recycled

The base structure of a CRATE module is 85 percent recycled material, so customers see a significant savings in cost versus typical stick-built construction.

What our customers are saying

This is a model that can’t be replicated. It’s an innovative approach to development because the structures were manufactured off-site while site work was being done here. Then, the units were delivered and assembled on-site to create housing — shortening the time it would normally take to build a project. The units are designed to be very strong, sustainable and energy efficient.
